Thanksgiving

Today I am thankful for many things.

This last week I was so privileged to be with my sister, Lindsey, her husband, Drew, and their new little girl, Stella. I loved them- every moment. I really miss them, but I am so thankful that I was able to get them, see my niece, and help Lindsey even if it was only for a short time. I am also very thankful that Lindsey and Stella (shortly followed by Drew) will be coming in 2 weeks, so it won't be quite as long between visits this time! (You might pray for her as she is driving her 1 month old from Louisville, KY to Fort Worth, TX- at least 13.5hrs depending on who's driving.)

I am thankful that on either side of my trip to Kentucky, I was able to see my fiance and his lovely family. (my soon to be family!) We had a great time sorting through a lot of stuff we'd received from showers and deciding where to put things in our apartment- how fun to say is that? It's very fun for me and Cal. We had a good dinner last night and a great breakfast this morning. I am so blessed that I got to see him when I originally didn't expect to.

I am thankful for all the safe driving, despite the one small parking stint on the side of the road for my gimpy stomach to release its contents.

I am thankful for being able to come home from my long trip and be loved on by my family. They had lots of food prepared for our big fun family dinner and it was completely delicious. It was so great to get to talk to so many people and my cousins even came over later to see me! (and others I'm sure) We had a great time and we even looked at baby pictures. They're out because we are working on the wedding slideshow, so everyone had fun looking at embarassing photos of me. I will refrain from posting any of said pictures, but if you're friends with my dad on facebook there are some available in his "mobile uploads" section.

I am thankful for every one of the 23 days left until our wedding that we will get to enjoy with friends and family.

I am thankful for a sweet and considerate fiance that is daily a piece of sanity and calm nature in my crazy brain. He is such a Godly man, always pointing me in the right direction. I also am thankful for/love his consistency. I can be a very very loyal person, so his consistency and his devotion really does mean the world to me. (love you, nuke!)

I am also thankful for so many friends that have really impacted my life by allowing me to be a part of theirs this year. Thank y'all.

Signing off, this a big day of thanks and I hope that I have more than one of these days a year.

Travelin' Woman

Howdy from Kentucky!

I have made the trek up to see mi hermana, mi hermano-in-law, and la Stella (haha). The first leg of my trek was a bit interesting. Cal and I loaded up a truck and my Honda full of stuff (including a bed! yay! Cal will no longer be sleeping on a mattress on the floor) and drove to Mississippi. Unfortunately the tarp we used to cover said things did not agree with us. In fact, it insisted on coming out from the tie downs, bungee cords, and boxes we used to attempt to make it stay, and flapped in the wind...for over 6 hours. It turns out that tarps are not very sturdy and it subsequently frayed with its final state looking something akin to a flapper dress. I like the '20s, but this was not exactly what'd I'd been thinking...
ANYWAY, we made it to MS and dropped off all the stuff before going back to the 'rents-in-law-to-be's house so that I could get some shut eye before starting the next leg of my trip. I ate a pretty hardy breakfast made by my oh so sweet fiance of cereal and was loaded up with a bottle of water and some great snacks! Then I started my way to Kentucky! (I am tempted here to sing a rendition of Oooooooooh klahoma where the wind goes.... but with Kentucky. I'll spare you.) 9 hrs later I arrived in Louisville!
I have been exposed anew to babies (baby. Stella.) and I have to say.... I like her! She isn't always smiles and rainbows, but she is a sweet and cute baby. I have also managed to get her to stop crying and go to sleep on me once! It was very exciting. Talk about feeling accomplished. There is nothing more satisfying then to get a crying (loudly crying) baby to stop and to look so peaceful and happy! While it may not have been me, I was holding her, so Lindsey gave me permission to take credit and Drew gave me a high five. Yeah! Very exciting day for Claire Thompson. Currently Stella and her Mom are taking a nap. Later, I'm going to keep Stella to give Drew and Lindsey some much needed together time. Should be exciting!
In other news, I'm a terrible Aunt because I have barely taken any pictures, but my arms have been full a lot of the times holding Stella! And when a baby is asleep the last thing you want to do is take a picture. Trust me, you are glad she is sleeping. Loving baby, loving Lindsey, loving life. Do svidanya!

p.s. update: 26 days until the wedding

Shower Month

We have had three different showers this month (one of a more scandalous variety) and they were all quite lovely! Here is just a small recap:

Halloween Girly Party
We had all the girls come as their favorite leading lady from a movie and it turned out great!

I loved being Belle (Joanna Jones made the lovely dress I was wearing) and seeing how everyone dressed, plus we had so much hanging out, playing games, and opening presents! I had to guess who bought me what gift, so hard!!

Then we had the first bridal shower in Fort Worth! The sweet Jennifer Hughens as well as 7 other wonderfully generous ladies hosted this party. I got to see so many sweet people that I hadn't seen in ages and have lots of wonderful conversations. We had petite fours (love!), punch in champagne glasses, sausage balls (mmmm), and lots of other goodies. The next shower we had was in Clinton, Mississippi! I got to meet so many people that had meant a lot to Cal and his family throughout his life. They all seemed like such sweet people and I look forward to getting to know them better. There were 13 hostesses all of whom did an amazing job putting together a beautiful shower. The cake was incredible!! (pictures to come) It was in the shape of a purse, shoes, and a shoe box. How fun!

Upon request (love you Lindsey!) I am posting some pictures of a few of the gifts we have received so far:

These are just a few of the many generous gifts we received!
Love and Thanks,
Claire (and Cal)
